Executives 2022/2023

President

Hi everyone, my name is Andrea Sze and I’m beyond excited to be your GSA President for this school year! I am in my 5th year majoring in E&S Geography and minoring in GIS. Outside of the classroom, I love spending time in the kitchen baking, cooking and trying out new recipes. I’m also a nerd for learning about the science behind cooking and baking so come talk to me if you do too! I also love thrifting, biking, and comedy-drama shows such as The Good Place and Parks and Recreation. This school year I will be working towards making GSA better and helping connect students and faculty around our shared interest in geography. I look forward to meeting you all!

VP Academic

Kia ora koutou! My name is Phoebe and I am thrilled to be your VP Academic for the coming year. I am going into fourth year majoring in Geography (honours), and will be joining the coming cohort for the Certificate in Climate Studies and Action. You can reach me at academic@ubcgsa.ca – feel free to ask me anything related to classes, degree options, adjusting to a new learning system or academic culture, GeoTalk events, general degree related existential crises… anything goes! I’m also happy to chat over coffee or a walk if you’d like to meet in person.

VP Administration

Hello! My name is Kensley, and I’ll be your VP Administration for this coming academic year! I’m a 4th-year student majoring in Human Geography and minoring in Urban Studies! I’m glad to be re-joining this geography family (3rd year in a row!) and am looking forward to being connected to the greater geography community. Outside of geography, I have various hobbies: For sports, I love playing squash, badminton, orienteering, skiing, and watching LFC/BVB football matches; For music, singing or playing the guitar are my favourites. But I can’t end this self-intro without mentioning my passion for travelling – geography students would always have the curiosity to learn more about various cultures and issues around the world! Feel free to contact me at info@ubcgsa.ca, and chat about any stuff!

VP Communications

Hi everyone! My name is Allie and I am your VP Communications for the 2022-2023 term! I’m a fifth-year student majoring in E&S and minoring in GIS. I am so excited to develop our communications materials to demonstrate to the UBC community that the GSA is a welcoming and accessible environment to all, committed to community, sustainability, and fun (I have big plans!!!). I am super open to any and all suggestions – feel free to DM the GSA Instagram account with any feedback or questions. 🙂 A bit more about me! I’m an international student from California, and I have many recommendations that I love to share if you’re ever travelling there (although I highly prefer BC). I’ve worked at a few coffee shops and have very strong opinions on good / not-so-good shops in town (Jitters is one of my faves). I’m also headed into my 3rd Co-op term and I have a lot to say about this experience if anyone has questions! I really love the Geography community, and I’m so happy to be a part of the team this year! :~)

VP External

Hello! My name is Kyle, and I’m the VP External for GSA this year. I love how GSA has created such a strong community within the geography department, and I’m looking forward to making the geography community even stronger via my role! Outside of geography, I love going for walks – both in cities and countryside. Feel free to contact me at external@ubcgsa.ca!

VP Finance

Hey there! I’m Marium, GSA’s VP Finance this year! I’m currently a fourth-year Science and fifth-year Arts student in the Dual Degree BA + BSc program studying Geological Sciences and Geography, respectively. I grew up primarily in Malaysia, but my parents recently moved to California, and I spent the summer turning our backyard into a home garden (I’m very proud to say we now grow carrots, onions, eggplants, green beans, peppers, grapes, raspberries, peaches, a number of herbs, and my personal favourite: edamame!). In the future, I hope to do research in the field of astrogeology (a dream job, really), but for right now, I’m super excited to be the VP Finance for GSA this year. Don’t hesitate to say ‘hey’ if you see me around or reach out to me through email at finance@ubcgsa.ca!
